Africa's Mathematics Community faces a problem of educational and research infrastructure not strengthened enough to produce an adequate number of mathematicians with advanced degrees.
This has resulted in African born mathematicians acquiring their masters and doctorate degrees from outside the country. These foreign trained African Mathematicians after acquiring their qualifications usually do not come back to their native countries. It is against this background that IMS was setup to cater for the needs of young and enterprising African Scientists to help them develop their full potentials.

New Stamp for Prof. F.K.A. Allotey |
For contributing to Mathematical Sciences and promoting Science in Africa, the Government of Ghana issued a stamp for Prof. F.K.A. Allotey, on the 29th of March, 2006.
The stamp was officially issued immediately after the Eclipse, at 11:00am.
Many people were in Cape Coast University for the event.
A workshop on the Solar Eclipse which is being sponsored by the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), will come off in March, 2006 in Cape Coast. Full details soon.
